Frank G. Shellock, Ph.D. internationally respected MRI safety researcher and educator, developed this series of educational programs on the vital topic of MRI safety. These courses are designed to address the needs of staff with specific roles in the MRI department and throughout the hospital or imaging center. Through these courses, Dr. Shellock provides relevant safety training for the entire range of healthcare facility personnel based in hospitals and imaging centers that provide MRI services. To maintain patient and staff safety, and meet the American College of Radiology and The Joint Commission guidelines, all staff should receive annual training in MRI safety.
Because of the incidence of accidents and other issues that occur in the MRI setting, it is vital to provide comprehensive safety training to radiologists, MRI technologists/radiographers, and other healthcare professionals involved with MRI technology.
Of further note is that MRI facilities must be prepared for the revised requirements from The Joint Commission for Diagnostic Imaging Services, which went into effect in July 2015. As part of the requirements, the facility must document that MRI technologists who perform MRI examinations participate in ongoing education that includes annual training on safe practices in the MRI environment.
