Program Summary

This activity calls on the clinical expertise of three (3) well-respected physicians who will review the current literature, recent comparative studies and apply their clinical experience in assessing the currently available macrocyclic contrast agents. Dr. Michael Tweedle focuses on the chemical design of the various agents, Dr. Robert Muller focuses on how the chemical design affects the relaxivity of the various agents and finally; Dr. Emanuel Kanal focuses on the relationship of stability and nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) in the various agents. The goal of this activity is to help radiologists have an expanded understanding of the similarities and differences between the available macrocyclic contrast agents.

Target Audience

  • Radiologists
  • Related Imaging Professionals
  • Nurses

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the physicochemical similarities and differences among the available GBCA's.
  • Understand how the chemical design of each agent affects its relaxivity.
  • Understand the important practical issues of stability and safety and why this is important when evaluating and adopting a new agent.
