Episode 9: Various Liver Disease Processes, Use of Eovist

CASE 1 FREE PREVIEW ONLY: This program is a “Pay To View” program. To view the entire episode and obtain CME credits you must first purchase the program. Once purchased links will be provided from within your “MyAR Archives” page for access to the program and the online exam to earn CME credit.

Program Summary:

In this episode Dr Semelka describes a variety of hepatic disease processes. A number of cases demonstrate the use of a hepatobiliary agent, eovist, and he describes how he uses this agent.

Case 1: Multiple Foci of Fat in Liver. This case illustrates MR findings of multiple fatty infiltrations in liver. This case illustrates that the radiologist should use both T1WI and T2WI with and without fat suppression to identify fat information in patients with focal hepatic lesions. (FREE Preview Provided)

Case 2: Diffuse Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Portal Vein Thrombosis and Bone Metastases. This case illustrates an outstanding example of diffuse hepatocellular carcinoma with intense arterial enhancement of tumor resulting in portal vein thrombosis. Discussion is also made of important features to look for when diagnosing bone metastases.

Case 3: Microwave-ablated Hepatocellular Carcinoma (Pre- and Post-ablated Images). This case illustrates MR findings of microwave-ablated hepatocellular carcinoma in the liver. Discussion is made of how to differentiate recurrent tumor from successfully ablated necrotic tumor.

Case 4: Hepatic Hemangioma. This case illustrates the MR findings of a small capillary hemangioma. We also discuss perilesional hyperperfusional phenomenon that is observed in these hemangiomas, and describe pseudo-washout in hemagiomas shown on Eovist enhanced studies.

Case 5: Focal Nodular Hyperplasia. This case illustrates a classic example of focal nodular hyperplasia in the liver, using Eovist contrast agent.

Case 6: Chronic Liver Disease. This case illustrates an example of chronic liver disease, using Eovist contrast agent.

Case 7: Hepatic Metastases. This case illustrates an example of hepatic metastases with Eovist contrast agent. Description is made of the usefulness of the hepatocytic phase for detecting hepatic metastases.

Case 8: Common Bile Duct Injury Associated with Cholecystectomy. This case illustrates an example of bile duct injury. The value of Eovist contrast agent for identifying common bile duct injury is illustrated.

Approximate Episode Run Time: 70 Minutes

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity participants will have a better understanding of the following:

• How to construct an MR protocol to fit the patient and clinical questions

• Which MR imaging tools can benefit your review of MRI cases

• Circumstances that can help or hinder your review

• Making the final diagnosis

Claiming CE Credit:

To receive CME credits for participating in this activity you must view the program, successfully complete the online post examination and the following evaluation. Online examinations return an immediate grade report. Upon receiving a passing grade of 70% or higher, a letter of credit will be available for printing and indefinitely available in your “MyAR” Archives.

Accreditation Statement:

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Institute for Advanced Medical Education (IAME) and WebMedEd. IAME is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

IAME designates this activity for a maximum of one (1) AMA/PRA Category 1 CME Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.
